to the heartbroken:
Hatsumomo

I recently lost
 1
the eleventh friend
 2
in the past six months
 3
because I would not
 4
return his love.
 5

What they do not know
 6
is that the
 7
fashionable sandals
 8
are to hide
 9
the soles of feet
 10
that have been slit
 11
53 times,
 12
the sunglasses
 13
to shield
 14
dilated pupils
 15
and the cigarette
 16
to satisfy an empty stomach.
 17

I drive them off and
 18
subject myself
 19
to loneliness
 20
guilt
 21
misery
 22
while they may safely assume
 23
that I am
 24
an inconsiderate slut.
 25

comfort yourself
 26
in knowing
 27
I have done you
 28
a favour.
 29

you are better off
