everyone's a cynic
sggunal

It came in the form of how
 1
her words now ceased to fall
 2
-- unbidden
 3
       and uncontrolled --
 4
from tipped over tea kettles
 5
to the bottom of mouthfuls
 6
of soon to be overbrimming cups
 7

 8
After the drinking deed was done
 9
-- dirtily dyed with tannin,
 10
dizzily drunk off of theine --
 11
each cup would be held by the curved handle
 12
for the reading, keeping
 13
its round base close
 14
and warm to the palm
 15

 16
There would be prophecies in the patterns
 17
formed by the scattered lexicon
 18
of boiled leaves; insight that
 19
astounded really
 20
when found
 21

 22
I know she couldn’t have had
 23
swirled them on her own -
 24
not even if she’d tried
 25

 26
Last I saw her she was doing just that
 27
-- reaching for her far-sighted glasses,
 28
fiddling through her tight-knitted pockets --
 29
and I caught again the mutter she seems
 30
to have taken to of late:
 31

 32
“There was a poem in here-
 33
I must have misplaced”
 34

 35
That her old chatter-verse is lost
 36
is no call for tears
 37

 38
It would just fall on deaf ears

the line breaks could do with a tweak, but it's rather nice otherwise.

:) Thank you.   Yes,I've re-edited this so many times for line-breaks... I'd be happy for any suggestions.

although I don't know how that semi-colon got in there

Semicolons are sneaky that way.. :)  I did want the last line to be a bit discordant and off from the rest but I do like the suggestion too.. Will think about.  And I'm glad you could identify!
