The Balance Machine

The balance machine
helps you hold on
to the best moments of your life
with proficient grace.
Its effortless cogs and fluent flywheels
mean no more obliteration of moments
when life was a dive in the cherry bowl,
or having to ask another what you did
in order to recall that crucial time.
Press its golden button
and the balance machine
demonstrates perfect timing.
Goodbye to getting stuck
at the point in the argument
when outpourings of bile and venom
corrode the tender carapace of your mind.
The balance machine ensures
that only the sweet kiss of reconciliation
remains instead, and though not unscathed,
you appear to the world at least,
