Silver Anniversary

Our passion was spent,
you fell asleep in my arms.
Each day of each year has unwound
to reveal the exalted face of a shared moment.
We've been nourished by acts of nourishing,
our youth faded and grew in faces
of children who seed the future
as we are heirs of lovers long gone
who live in us with love’s largess.
Unlike beauty of September leaves
that herald death with gorgeous colors,
people still alive will be tinged with memories
when our hearts have stopped.
When we ride the dimensional
winds to the life that follows
where interconnectedness of all things
is known as the breath of existence,
it will be old news,
something we knew when we fell in love.
