Let's Call This, Forum Critical  Henry  1 Feb 07 1:27AM Post Reply

It seems lately more people are commenting on the forum, rather than the poems. There were 8 people on at one time today and I was the only one commenting on poems. The rest were silent or were in the forums. Any thoughts, other than that "Henry just added to the people commenting in the forums." I just commented on 10 or so poems.

i commented on one or two, but mostly i didn't identify with any of the poems today and felt that i couldn't give a helpful review. the forum people don't comment on poetry. it's a chat room for them. probably there weren't that many people online today? or maybe they weren''t interested in the new posted poems either?

Not too many poems packing any sort of internal 'punch' for me, these days.  Sometimes, just sometimes, one will be posted that will allow me to watch all sorts of peculiar responses going on within me, but not often.

Mike's posts, however..  Now THERE'S an exercise in "what happens for me when..." and I've had a wonderful time practicing that awareness.  Whether reading them feels pleasurable, or creepy, or funny, or wistful, by and large it's all good.

That's great Mike, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

Henry, the discussion on the forums has actually been quite interesting of late, and several of the threads have even had a poetic theme, partaking in dialogue of this nature is far more constructive than the 10 crits you offered - take mine an example: "So you think your really ^%%ing clever, eh? Well you are. Good work. 4/10.

By the way I took the above comment in good faith, however the point stands comments like this are not helping anyone. We (I include myself in this statement) need to spend time when offering a critique and really make it useful. (alas I feel like a stuck record)

I commented on a lot yesterday, just like always.  I never forget what the point of PC is.  It's not about self-glorification, though it's hard to see that sometimes.

I'm with Henry - read 5 poems for every one time you post on the message board.  But the emphasis where it belongs, not reading and writing about poetry but actually reading and writing poetry.

thanks for the oscar, but this isn't me. it's a style of its own, and i don't know it yet. look at the all-cap "there's"... that's special to this poster, i think... the placing of it and the feeling that there was a need.

now, this post... that was me faking you, of course. and, of course, the only unique thing in your style is that you have to cap "mike" out or you'd feel naked in public, and that's what i've done in this fake post, pretending to be you. why don't you pretend to be you too.

Well, Henry, have a blue peter badge for being such a good boy, and while you're at it, try and make your comments sound halfway constructive. I would rather have 1 decent crit, showing me where I could improve than 100 of your worthless 4/10 comments.
