Definitions will spawn in a new window (Wordnet):

you in pieces

i watched the south seep out of your blood
only to creep back in years later, thicker, stickier. no.
i didn’t watch, i couldn’t; i saw you in pieces.
in a fragmented gray scale, you quit the south,
the way the water is quitting your body, slowly,
maybe slower than you wish.
i can’t ask you where you are but the question
doesn’t trouble me. conversely, the answer
won’t bring me peace: i know you are somewhere
where the thick air clings to your skin and the dirt
after that. it's just as well that's all i know.
